The Texas Tribune was showcasing an article about how even though Texas is a sea of conservative, Texas Democrats still see an opportunity to pass legislation about healthcare with the help of the Obama administration. Whether how the federal government will help Texas medicaid beneficiaries is unclear, but both Republican and Democratic parties can agree that the Texas care system needs reform. I personally feel that the government should care for those who need the care, but I also understand that a government provided care system will cost money. A lot of money.

According to this article, Republicans also say that expanding the Texas Medicaid before reforming it will cost even more for the Texas government and would mean even more budget cuts (I can't imagine what Texas schooling would be like if the legislature decides to add even more budget cuts). Medicaid, and Medicare are two of the pillars for the Democratic party, because the party is about giving rights to more people. However, the Texas medicaid program needs some more improvement before the legislature goes around spending more money. Texas is already in a horrifying position (top of the bottom, one would say) when it comes to government spending, budget cuts, and especially out government provided care programs.

And according to this article, I feel that the Texas Democratic Party will be more than willing to make some negotiations with the Republican party to meet some sort of understanding.

  1. I agreed to you that Texas needs a reform on care system. It is true that by reforming and expanding the health care, it will cost a lot of money and I liked how he mentioned about budget cuts that might happen to all schools. The Democratic is the party that is all about giving the rights to their people however, when it comes to reforming and trying to pass the legislation; there will be money involved and as we know that our country is in debt. As I search for more information, to those Texans who have struggled to find adequate health care could see improved access which expected to bring $4 billion to local doctors and hospitals over five years. According to the article: No Republican lawmakers have gone on record supporting the Medicaid expansion, which would add an estimated 1.8 million Texans onto the joint state-federal health plan by 2022 and the Kaiser Family Foundation, a health care think tank, estimates the expansion would cost Texas $5.7 billion between 2013 and 2022 .
Yes, money is playing a big part but we have to consider whether Obama should or should not pass the legislation with several reasons. To me personally, by expanding Medicaid, the low-income will be insured ( Texas has more than 6.3 million uninsured residents and the highest percentage without health coverage of any state), reduce cost shifting, expansion supports the broader reform, helping to legitimize it and make it function better which is good for Democrats in November. Then on the opposite side if the government decides to expand, things might happen such as expansion is too expensive for Texas and states in general, the increasing in population, basically everything will be increased. Think about it, if it reforms, then will tax and other costs will raise up?.It is good to have Medicaid but is it the best?. I really don't have a decision because I have pros and cons. Therefore, my stand would be undecided and just an opinion of my own.

    1. In this post I agree with what Miguel Ramirez is saying, the state of Texas needs a reform on the health care system, and with this reforming and expanding health care is going to cost big spending money. And by all the money that will be need it will also affect budget cuts and if our schooling isn’t bad as it is, the schooling will also be affected way more. I personally think that the health needs a better program but with this in mind we need to stop and draw something out and get right to the point instead of trying all this methods and spending money that we don’t even have. Investigate more about the people that we are helping and make sure they aren’t taking this system to their “wants” and not their “needs”.
The Democratic Party is saying that they are all in for the pass of legislation on this health care system with the aid of Obama’s administration. But like Miguel states the “federal government will help Texas Medicaid beneficiaries is unclear, and both Republican and Democratic parties can agree that the Texas care system needs reform”. In the article No Republican lawmakers have gone on record supporting the Medicaid expansion, which would have an estimated of 1.8 million Texans into the joint state-federal health plan by 2022 and the Kaiser Family Foundation, a health care think tank, estimates the expansion would cost Texas $5.7 billion between 2013 and 2022 .
Money money money is what drives the world that we live in. Should Obama pass or not the legislation and how much are we going to spend. To be honest we say and say what we are going to do and at the end its something different. Like I said before we need to really investigate where and how the money and aid is going to and if the people really need it or not! Texas has more than 6.3 million uninsured residents and the highest percentage without health coverage of any state! Does this system need improvement yes but what are we going to do I’m not sure of.
